Formula 1: Rosberg dropkicks Hamilton and steals pole!

Love him – hate him! Chose the side of the fence your bias dictates, but you cannot deny that Rosberg has the mettle of a champion. He is human and he allowed Hamilton to somehow, leak the seeds of poor judgement and unforced errors into his usually calm, cool and calculating cranium!

Hamilton’s success at psychological warfare came to the fore courtesy of the on-track fracas between the two which threatened to distort harmonious relations within the Mercedes AMG Petronas ranks. Thankfully, sane heads prevailed and the team through dialogue and careful, thoughtful, reflection, implemented measures to steady the unstable ship.

Rosberg

I will argue, however, that if Rosberg loses the World Championship, the turning point – the losing point – the actual moment, began with his revelation of puerile behavior when he initiated contact with Lewis’ machine. Time will tell and he does not have much time.

Rosberg, in my view has not been himself since the fracas and Lewis does not need an invitation to massacre his opponents and climb to P1. He went on a rampage and secured a handful of wins shortly after the debacle. But, Rosberg did not remain at Mercedes as a result of his icy charm – he drove the wheels of the machine when it was not the machine to beat and as such he earned his spot. He has gathered his pre-fracas pace. Hamilton maintains a slim 17 points lead and with double points up for grabs, Rosberg was always aware that his best shot – his only shot -  rests in a chamber marked – Victory!

Hamilton

At Yas Marina, Hamilton came out shooting from the hips – he was leading during the practice sessions and Rosberg noticed. Rosberg waited for qualifying to deliver his dagger. Hamilton was quick but Rosberg was quicker and possibly reacting to Rosberg’s fiery pace, Hamilton bit the error bullet and lost valuable tenths when they mattered most. At Yas Marina, Hamilton had no response for Rosberg – Rosberg romped to a commanding pole performance.

Mercedes AMG’s dominance was again shining brilliantly at Yas Marina. The team secured another 1-2 qualifying performance, collecting accolades only given to Red Bull when they were the King of the Hill. How the mighty have fallen!

But, the focus is on the World Championship and the war will be waged on the track between Hamilton, the current points leader and Rosberg, who will move heaven, hell and earth to take the silverware to Germany!

Who will win the World Championship? We will know in a few hours!

Lewis Hamilton wins the 2014 World Championship!
