Speedwest Weekend: Lueboyz will be in the building, but..

Author : cmunroe

How many tuning outfits in Jamaica have a Nissan GTR R35 chilling immediately in front of its entrance and wielding a muscle-bound pose? I will give you some time to figure it out. Time is up! Like a scene from a recent edition of the never-ending Fast and Furious, that is exactly what I saw when, as promised, I visited the Lueboyz speed-shop on Ruthven Road.

As foundation Lueboyz member, Stephen, ‘rolled out’ in the Ridgeline, I went to speak to one of the Godfather’s of Speed on ‘the rock’ – Craig Lue. Craig was wrapped between cables on a go-kart. A kart that he was prepping for the next generation of Lueboyz!

Banana

According to Craig, the machine we refer to as the ‘Banana’ – Honda Civic EG, will definitely be in the building, revving K-edition power. Since its last outing at Dover Raceway, several improvements have occurred. Craig indicated that the machine is currently making more glorious Honda power – read 300whp!

‘Banana’ being checked for lightness!

When I heard the figure I was thrown to an era when BTCC machines were roaring around Silverstone with that type of firepower! Jamaicans are still awesome individuals! The maestro behind the steering remains unchanged – Noel Golding Jr. Incidentally, I saw him a day after I spoke to Craig and he confirmed that he will be the pilot of the fighter jet! Jamwest prepare yourself!

But, what I was really interested in, the main purpose of my visit – the ‘Blue Wonder’ – was not appropriately attired when I arrived at the speed-shop. It was evident that it was the receipient of a color-treatment, but a lot of the race-ready components were absent. When I asked Craig about the machine I was actually prepared for the bad news.

When asked, Craig indicated that they tried to get the machine ready for Speedwest Weekend, but there was simply too much to do and too little time. And like a true professional, he stated that he wanted to ensure that the machine was thoroughly prepared when it met the track – so no hurry.  Despite my disappointment, I agreed.

But, I have good news. According to Craig, the machine’s best elapsed time to date, hovers in the low nine seconds region – a time which he says the machine can run daily, without stress. Craig said the machine was hurtling towards the 8 seconds door and this accomplishment was only a Jamwest event away! Yes, the machine is committed to Jamwest events for 2015! Did you know that the ‘Blue Wonder’  exits the 1320 ft occasionally at 164 mph! Machine!

And on a more sombre note, the ‘Blue Wonder’ is the same machine, that was much spoken about when it was owned by ‘Janspeed’. And as a sign of respect, Craig stated that the 8 seconds run (when achieved) will be dedicated to ‘Janspeed’. Big up Craig and the entire Lueboyz clan!

Remember – Speedwest Weekend – Jamwest Speedway – Feb 28 – March 1,2015!
